Dr Mark Daniel Atkinson is an Australian trained and registered Specialist Oral Surgeon.
Mark was born and raised in Brisbane, and entered university with an ATAR above 99 and College Captain of his high school. He graduated from his home town's dental school, the University of Queensland, with a Bachelor of Dental Science. He received a scholarship with the Royal Australian Air Force during his studies. Upon graduation, Mark wanted to develop his skills beyond the mouth and moved to Sydney to serve in the permanent RAAF as a Flight Lieutenant before transitioning to the Reserves.
Mark then went on to complete further post-graduate studies and his specialist training achieving both the Graduate Diploma in Surgical Dentistry and the Clinical Doctorate in Oral Surgery through the University of Sydney in association with NSW Health. He has also been awarded Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh after successfully passing both the college's primary and final examinations.
Mark has a passion for education and holds an honorary lecturer position with the University of Sydney, Faculty of Medicine and Health. He has been awarded Membership of the Faculty of Dental Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh due to his commitment to education. He has a particular interest in research including his completed thesis investigating medical emergencies in the dental setting.
Along with his private practice work, Mark holds the public hospital appointment of Staff Specialist with NSW Health operating across Sydney Local Health District.
Mark has a love for travel, hiking, diving and photography. He has worked abroad with NGOs in South Africa, Cambodia, Guatemala and Honduras.
