Born and raised on the north side of Brisbane, Dr. Mark Daniel Atkinson is a highly qualified and registered Specialist in Oral Surgery, with additional endorsement as a Dental Sedationist.
Mark graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science, earning a scholarship with the Royal Australian Air Force during his studies. Following graduation, Mark broadened his professional experience by moving to Sydney to serve in the RAAF as a Flight Lieutenant, later transitioning to the Reserves. He furthered his education with postgraduate studies, earning a Graduate Diploma in Surgical Dentistry and a Clinical Doctorate in Oral Surgery through the University of Sydney in collaboration with NSW Health. Most recently, he completed a Graduate Diploma in Conscious Sedation and Pain Control through the University of Sydney, ensuring the highest standards of safety and comfort for his patients.
Mark’s dedication to excellence is reflected in his achievements: commendations in all subjects of the primary examinations and Membership in Specialist Dental Practice of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, and Membership by Examination of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Faculty of Dental Surgeons.
Passionate about education, Mark holds an honorary lecturer position at the University of Sydney and regularly teaches continued professional development courses for the Australian Dental Association. He was awarded to Membership of the Faculty of Dental Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh as a reflection to his commitment to teaching. He also maintains a strong interest in research, including his thesis on medical emergencies in the dental setting.
Outside of clinical practice, Mark enjoys hiking and diving and is an enthusiastic follower of rugby league and cricket. He has also been fortunate to travel the globe and volunteer internationally with NGOs in South Africa, Guatemala, Honduras and Cambodia.
